Lee Trevino Experience Highlights 14th Annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team is set to host the 14th annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic on Monday, September 26. The tournament will be followed by a raffle and auction. This year the event will be highlighted by the auction of a golf outing with the legendary Lee Trevino.

The event will be held at Fort Worth’s Diamond Oaks Country Club. For the winning bidder and three friends, the Lee Trevino package includes: a practice range session with Lee Trevino mixed with his trademark brand of humor, lunch with Lee, 18 holes of golf with Lee at Diamond Oaks, and photos of the group with Lee printed for autographs by the end of the round. Bidding for this priceless experience will begin at $3,500. Proceeds will be split between the Lee Trevino Endowment for Golf at Texas Wesleyan and the Fort Worth Junior Golf Association.

Born in Dallas, Lee Trevino won the U.S. Open in 1968 and 1971, and became the only player to win the U.S. Open, the British Open, and the Canadian Open in the same year. A true golfing legend, Trevino is a winner of six major championships and 32 tour victories. He received an honorary doctorate from Texas Wesleyan in 1986.

Great prizes will also be raffled off, including rounds of golf at area courses, sets of irons, drivers, and much more. The raffle and auction will follow the tournament (approximately 6:00 p.m.)

The O.D. Bounds Golf Classic is named for Orin Davis Bounds Jr. who served as the head coach for the Rams for 40 years. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the O.D. Bounds Endowment, which supports the golf program at Texas Wesleyan. Bounds was a legend at Texas Wesleyan and the NAIA and was one of the most respected men in the golfing world. He was the first coach inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame, was the inaugural member of the Texas Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame, and was the first NAIA coach inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame. Bounds, who passed away in 2004, led the Rams to 109 tournament victories, including three national championships.

Under Bounds’ guidance, Texas Wesleyan Men’s Golf became the most storied golf program in the NAIA. In 57 years of membership, they have made 50 National Tournament appearances and have tallied Six National Championships and nine runner-up finishes.

The Rams are currently ranked seventh nationally in the Golf World/Nike NAIA Coaches’ Poll. They have finished seventh and ninth in two events this fall giving them 17 consecutive top-10 finishes dating back to March of 2010.
