FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (2-0) took a convincing 108-76 win over Texas College (1-1) at the Sid Richardson Center on Monday.
The Steers started quickly, jumping out to a 16-6 lead. However, the Rams stormed back to tie the game at 19 on a resounding dunk from
Rilwan Bakare. Texas Wesleyan immediately went on an 11-2 run and never looked back.
The Rams shot a blazing 79.3% from the field in the opening period and led 54-35 at the break.
Texas Wesleyan continually stretched its lead in the second half, pushing ahead by as many as 34 points on their way to the easy 108-76 win.
For the game, the Rams shot 64.2% from the floor and 50% from 3-point range, while holding the Steers to a mere 36.8% from the floor and 20% from distance. The Rams also led 50-29 on the boards, 62-42 in the paint, and 43-29 in bench points.
Five Rams reached double figures in scoring led by Bakare's 21 to go with eight rebounds.
Jorge Redmon finished with 19 points and six assists.
Kenny Rhymes poured in 17 points with eight rebounds.
Dallas Jones and
Deonte Jones finished with 15 and 14 points respectively.
Vernell Blackman also just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Rams will return to action on Wednesday when they take on No. 24 Our Lady of the Lake University on Wednesday. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
