PORT ST. LUCIE, FL:  Alexis Belton shot a 74 in the final round to win the Independent Women's Division of the 27th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship on Sunday.
 
Belton (77-72-74-223) closed with a 74 to win the title by a single stroke over Samantha Garcia of Texas-Pan American.

"I came into the final round and I just wanted to have fun and try to play my best," said Belton, who was competing in her first PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship. "It felt great to win and I can't wait to come back and play again next year."
 
Head coach Kevin Millikan wasn't surprised with his players win, "What a great tournament and experience for Alexis, winning a national title. Her work ethic all year has led her to this moment, and I couldn't be prouder for her."
