NEW YORK, NY: Henry Yates was not only the first player from the RRAC, but just the second NAIA player taken in the 2013 MLB First- Year Player Draft at pick number 274 by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round.

Only Miles Smith, a junior right handed pitcher from Lee University (TN) was selected higher at pick 113 in the fourth round by the Boston Red Sox.

Yates led the RRAC in batting average at .413 and is ranked 12th overall in the NAIA. He had a season high four hit, four RBI game on March 25 against Texas College.

The 6-2, 190 lb. outfielder was a force in the postseason for the Rams with 19 hits and seven RBI including a game winning two run home run to defeat the top ranked Faulkner University in the Opening Round Tournament.

“Hank came to Wesleyan highly recommended”, says head coach Mike Jeffcoat. “He has one of the purest, if not the purest swings in twelve years at Wesleyan. We are very excited to see him go so high in the draft and we can’t wait to see what he does in the minor leagues”
