BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA:  Texas Wesleyan University's Jose Rolz tied for 44th at the inaugural Latin American Amateur Championship on Sunday.
 
Rolz, a senior from Guatemala City, Guatemala, shot 299 (73-73-77-76) on the 7,255-yard, par-72 Pilar Golf Course.  His 146 through 36-holes easily cleared the cut line that proved to be +8 (152).
 
Sunday's final round was delayed for four hours by rain and wet conditions.  Matias Dominguez, of Chile, holed a short bogey putt on the 72nd hole to hold off Alejandro Tosti, of Argentina, by one stroke for the championship.  Dominguez earns an exemption into the 2015 Masters Tournament in April, as well as exemptions into the Amateur Championship and the U.S. Amateur Championship.
 
The event fielded players by invitation from the 29 IOC-recognized countries and territories in the region that are current members of the International Golf Federation.  Each origination was provided with two automatic positions to be filled by their highest ranking players from the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).  The remainder of the field was filled by taking the next highest ranked players from the WAGR with the maximum number of players from any one organization being set at six with the exception of the host nation which was allowed to nominate an additional four players.
 
Rolz was one of six players competing for Guatemala.  Two of his countrymen, Daniel Gurtner and Sebastian Barnoya, also made the cut, finishing T24 and T27 respectively.
 
Rolz was a 1st-team NAIA All-American selection last season.  He held the lead entering the final round before placing third at the 2014 NAIA National Championships.  This season he notched a victory at Texas A&M Commerce's Classic at the Tribute and third at Lawrence Tech's Kohler Classic at Whistling Straits.  He currently holds a scoring average of 73.43 for the season and 73.68 for his career.
