OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The 10th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf squad took home a second place finish with a final round 307 at the 2017 Sooner Athletic Conference Championships at Gaillardia Country Club on Tuesday. Alex Schies won the tournament and was also named SAC Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.
 
The Lady Rams made up 10 strokes from the first round with a 307 final round, four strokes behind first place Oklahoma City University's final round of 303.  TXWES finished 15 strokes behind the Stars with a 317-307-624 team scorecard, but 53 strokes ahead of third place St. Thomas-Houston.
 
Shies made up three strokes from yesterday to score a one-over 73, tying OCU's Anna Mikish for low score of the day. She was alone at the top of the leaderboard though, taking home the individual title with a 76-73-149 (+5) scorecard.
 
The 3rd ranked Stars as a team finished second through sixth to take home their sixth conference title.
 
Maisy Turner finished in the top 10 at ninth with an 11 –over, 78-77-155 tournament card.  Trudy Allen went into the club house in a share for 12 th (162) with a second round score of 79.  Elena Sinde Romero finished 17th (165) and shot a final round 85. Jacinda Chan came in at 18th (166) with a final round score of 78. Jaci Trotter took 23rd (173) with a final round 89 competing as an individual.
 
"We played well…I'm super proud of this team for all they have accomplished so far this year," touted head coach Kevil Millikan. "I'm also happy for Alex [Shies] being named SAC Player of the Year for the third straight year. We are looking forward to the national championship and making a run at our first national title."
 
Texas Wesleyan will hold their 4th annual Lady Ram Golf Classic fundraiser on Monday, May 15 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Arlington before preparing for an at-large bid to play in the 2017 NAIA National Championship starting on Tuesday, May 23 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
