VICTORIA, TX: The 5th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Women's Golf cruised to its third win of the season at the University of Houston-Victoria's Claud Jacobs Invitational at The Club at Colony Creek on Monday. High winds elevated scores on Sunday, but the Rams still ran away from the field, winning by 43 strokes.
This was Texas Wesleyan's third win in four tournaments this season.
Winds were gusting between 20 and 30 miles per hour on Monday, causing elevated scores throughout the field. The Lady Rams came in at 330 in the final round, which was 36 strokes higher than their round on Sunday but was still the best round of the day by 20 shots.
With a 36-hole score of 624, the Rams easily won over Western Texas Community College (667), UT-Tyler (672), Tyler Junior College (679) and St. Thomas-Houston (686).
Individually, the Rams placed three in the top four.
Alex Schies earned her sixth collegiate win in the field of 66 players. She carved up the par 72 (5,856 yard) course at 5-over par for the tournament in spite of the tough conditions on Monday. That was two shots better than Tyler Junior College's Mathilde Bertuol.
Emily Hunt was third at +10, and
Trudy Allen finished tied for fourth at +12.
Elena Sinde Romero tied for 14
th at 165, and
Jacinda Chan tied for 26th at 172.
Three Rams played as individuals. Freshman
Aubrey Zastoupil posted her first collegiate top-10 finish, tying for sixth at 159.
Jaci Trotter (170) placed 22nd, and
Madalyn Fee (173) tied for 28th.
The Lady Rams will return to action March 9-10 at Bellevue University's Spring Break Classic at Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, TX.

- The Lady Rams stretched their streak to 21 consecutive top-10 finishes.
- Texas Wesleyan's opening round of 294 ranks third in the young history of the Texas Wesleyan Women's Golf program which is in its 6th season. It is the team's second best round this season. They shot a school record 285 during Oklahoma City's Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in October.
- This was Texas Wesleyan's sixth appearance in this tournament. They have finished in the top-5 in each of the last five seasons including Monday's victory and a runner-up finish in 2015.
- Among
Alex Schies' numerous program records, she holds the school marks with six victories, 14 top-5's, 21 top-10's and 28 top-20 finishes in her 33 appearances with the Rams.
