Schies Wins, Lady Rams 2nd at O City

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK:  The 5th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Women's Golf team finished as the runner-up at No. 13 Oklahoma City University's O City Classic at Lincoln Park.  Meanwhile, Alex Schies delivered her third individual win of the season.

The Rams completed 54 holes in 915 strokes, just nine shots off the pace set by the hosting Stars.  Schies was the only player under par for the tournament, finishing at -1 to lead all 72 individuals on the par 72 (5,920 yard) West Course at Lincoln Park.

This was the second meeting of the Sooner Athletic Conference's top two teams, Texas Wesleyan and Oklahoma City, this season.  The Rams took the first meeting on the same course in the fall.  Round three will also be played at Lincoln Park at the SAC Championships April 20-22.

Schies entered Tuesday's final round tied for the lead with OCU's Savannah Moody.  Schies took command on the front nine when Moody posted a quad on No. 2 and Schies was 2-under at the turn.  Moody was very steady on the back nine with eight pars, while Schies turned in four bogies, and the two were separated by just one shot at the tee box on 18.  On her final hole, Schies notched her fifth birdie of the day to take the win by two strokes.

As a team, the Rams got within two shots of the Stars early in Tuesday's round, but OCU notched the low round of the tournament at 298 to win by nine.

No. 22 William Penn University finished third, 11 shots behind the Rams, while McLennan College and Bellevue University rounded out the top-five.

Trudy Allen also finished in the top-10, tying for ninth at 228.  Elena Sinde Romero carded a 77 in the final round to move into a tie for 20th with her teammate Emily Hunt at 236.  Aubrey Zastoupil tied for 46th.

Jacinda Chan (T20), Madalyn Fee (T28) and Jaci Trotter (T31) played the tournament as individual medalists.

This was Texas Wesleyan's final regular season competition.  They will return to action at the SAC Championships April 20-22.
