Rams Tame Tigers In Round One Win

MONTGOMERY, AL: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball (41-16) ran all over Georgetown College (35-18) in a 9-1 thrashing in the opening round of the NAIA National Championships at Harrison Field on Thursday.
 
The Tigers got first inning lead with a Ryan Serrato RBI single through the right side, but the Rams got a double play to get out of the inning with minimal damage done.
 
The Rams went on a two out rally in the second claim their first lead of the day. Alex Padilla and Trevor Moon hit back to back single to put the pressure on. David Kiriakos was hit by a pitch to load the bases and a Tiger error with the bases loaded in the next at bat allowed Wesleyan to tie the game. Henry Yates kept a hot bat driving in two runs with a base hit through the left side to make it a 3-1 game.
 
The Rams doubled their score in the fourth to grab a healthy lead on the Tigers. Charles Tabone hit a two RBI single, and Rickman capped the inning with a RBI liner down the left field line for a 6-1 lead.
 
Texas Wesleyan added some insurance runs in the sixth with their third three run inning. Brian White picked a RBI with a single up the middle. Joel Rickman picked up a RBI on a 4-3 groundout play, and Dusty Harper singled to shallow center for to cap the rally as the Rams held a firm 9-1 lead.
 
It was easy going from there as the Rams shut down the Tigers in the last third of the ball game to stay in the top half of the bracket.
 
Sam Martin (12-0) went six innings and only had the one earned run in the first inning, while scattering eight hits to go along with a walk and strikeout. Marshall Little, Connor Zamora, and Jacob Lyons each turned in one scoreless inning to finish the game.
 
Yates led the Rams going 3 for 3 with two RBI. Tabone went 1 for 4 with a two RBI double. Harper went 2 for 5 with a run batted in.
 
The Rams will play the host team Faulkner (48-10) in the 3:00 p.m. game tomorrow.
