GRAND RAPIDS, MI: The Texas Wesleyan University men's cross country team finished 12th in a field of 35 teams at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College on Saturday.
Third Ranked Olivet Nazarene won the event with a score of 77. They were followed by No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan (84), No. 5 St. Francis (93), No. 6 Aquinas (107), and Marian (177). Four of the top-5 and eight of the top-10 teams were nationally ranked.
Mizael Carrera of Robert Morris flew through the 8K course in 25:02.68 to lead the field of 238 runners. Texas Wesleyan's
Isaac Lalang navigated the course full of soft rolling hills in 25:52.19 to place 8th.
Oraine Wint ran a time of 27:09.32 to finish 55th.
Nathan Garcia placed 103rd in 28:12.96.
Brandon Goolsby finished 122nd in a time of 28:28.74.
Tal Thomas finished 141st at 29:00.01.
Although several of the Rams were a bit under the weather, head coach Nat Amare was pleased with the performance. "The guys did very well. We are good to go and will be ready for conference."
The Rams will return to action on November 8, at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship in Shawnee, OK.
