FB: No. 25 Texas Wesleyan University vs Oklahoma Panhandle State University Preview

FORT WORTH - No. 25 Texas Wesleyan University (5-3, 5-0 SAC) aims to maintain its perfect Sooner Athletic Conference record and extend a four-game winning streak against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (3-4, 2-3 SAC) to five when the Rams visit the Aggies on Saturday.

The Rams are coming off a resilient 44-36 comeback victory over Langston last Saturday at Crowley ISD Stadium. After trailing 16-0 in the first quarter, the Rams mounted a surge led by quarterback Cole Francis, who passed for 323 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Tony Roberson, who rushed for 119 yards and three scores, including two 36-yard runs. Roberson's effort garnered SAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition.

Ashton Mitchell clinched the win with a 74-yard touchdown run in the final minutes, while receiver Sean Smith contributed 107 yards. The defense generated crucial turnovers, including a fumble recovery and a blocked extra point, despite yielding 467 passing yards and five touchdowns to Langston quarterback Aden Hooper.

Oklahoma Panhandle State enters with momentum from a two-game winning streak, highlighted by home triumphs over Nelson (Texas) 34-13 on Oct. 11 and Arkansas Baptist 35-14 on Oct. 18. The Aggies have averaged approximately 19 points per game offensively but have allowed 30 defensively, a weakness evident in setbacks against ranked Ottawa Arizona (56-10) and Louisiana Christian (56-27).

OPSU began the season with a narrow 10-9 road win at Peru State on Aug. 30 but endured a three-game losing streak that included a shutout and lopsided defeats. Home performances in Goodwell stand at 2-2, supported by community-themed events such as Veterans' Day and a chili cookoff.

The series leans toward Texas Wesleyan 4-3 since 2017, with the Rams claiming the past four encounters, including a 49-21 victory in Goodwell on Sept. 21, 2024, and a 52-0 shutout at home in 2022. OPSU held the upper hand early, securing the initial three matchups with notable results like a 65-6 rout in 2017 and a 34-28 double-overtime decision in 2019.

Texas Wesleyan has averaged 34 points across the rivalry and holds a 2-2 road record in Goodwell. The Rams will look to capitalize on OPSU's defensive shortcomings while neutralizing an Aggies offense gaining traction at home.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CDT at Anchor D Stadium at Carl Wooten Field, and a victory would strengthen Texas Wesleyan's position in the NAIA playoff race.
