Lady Rams Blank Lions

WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (11-5, 5-3 RRAC) took a 7-0 win at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (2-15, 0-8) on Thursday.
 
The Lady Rams put the game away almost immediately. Christina Zimmerman scored the game’s first goal in the seventh minute on an assist from Jessica Watton. Watton fed freshman forward Karissa Olson in the 14th minute. Olson then scored her twelfth, and thirteenth goals of the season to push the score to 4-0 by the 24th minute. Sam Greer added her first goal of the season in the 37th minute, and the Rams led 5-0 at the intermission.
 
In the second half, Cara Lumpkin hit Watton (77th minute) and Jodi Blowers (84th minute) to cap the scoring a 7-0.
 
The Rams outshot the Lions 44-3 (16-1 on goal) and led 12-3 in corner kicks. Olson added an assist to her three goals. Watton’s three assist matched the school’s single game record.
 
“We got it together and played pretty well offensively and defensively today,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “These are the kinds of games you need heading into the conference tournament.”
 
The Rams will close out the regular season on Saturday, when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Huston-Tillotson University. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
