Lady Rams Dominate

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (4-0) took a dominating win from St. Gregory’s University (4-2), winning 81-49 behind a home crowd in the Sid Richardson Center on Monday.

  

The Lady Rams shot out of the gate, getting an early jump on the Lady Cavaliers with a 12-3 run to start the game. The Rams continued to pour on the points with a jumper from Tiffany Adair that made it 20-10 with 13:06 left in the first half. Brianne Ryburn hit back-to-back layups to bring the Lady Cavaliers within eight at 22-14 with 11:25 left, but Eliana Mijangos answered with back-to-back three-pointers to give Wesleyan a 28-14 lead. The Lady Rams kept St. Gregory’s at bay for the rest of the half and took a 46-23 lead at the break. Texas Wesleyan excelled in the points off turnovers category with 10 to St. Gregory’s two.

 

The Lady Rams kept the heat on in the second half, but the Lady Cavaliers did not go down without a fight. St. Gregory’s played a better second half, bringing down 24 rebounds, but stifling Texas Wesleyan defense held the Cavs to 27% shooting from the floor and resulted in the lopsided score.

Texas Wesleyan dominated every facet of the game, shooting 48 percent in the second half and 55 percent for the game. The Cavs shot just 30 percent for the game. The Rams edged the Lady Cavaliers in rebounds 43-39. The biggest discrepancy was in three point shooting, as the Lady Rams shot 45 percent (5-11) to the Lady Cavs 9 percent (2-22), leading to the 81-49 blowout win.

  

Shayla Moore led the Rams with 17 points. Octavia Mullins notched a double-double behind 11 points and 11 rebounds. Brittany White tacked on 10 points and seven boards in the win. Adair added 15 points for the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams keep it going as they make the short trip to Dallas to take on Paul Quinn College in their conference opener on Saturday, November 27, at 5:30 p.m.
