DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (5-0, 1-0 RRAC) took a convincing 91-37 win at Paul Quinn College (2-5, 0-1) in their Red River Athletic Conference opener on Saturday. With the win, the Rams are off to their best start since 1984, when the team started out 7-0.
The Rams came out hot, and the game was over almost as soon as it began. Texas Wesleyan nailed each of its first eight shots to race ahead 17-2. The lead swelled to 39-points at 43-4, as stifling defense forced 22 first-half turnovers and allowed just two made shots and three free throws. The Rams shot 53% from the field (19-for-36) while allowing Paul Quinn to shoot just 9% (2-for-22) on their way to a 46-7 lead at the intermission.
The Rams led by as many as 56 points, 89-33, on their way to the 91-37 win.
Texas Wesleyan outshot Paul Quinn 47%-25% from the floor. The Rams won the battle-of-the-boards 50-40. For the game, the Rams forced 38 turnovers and led 43-8 in points off of turnovers.
Paul Quinn was led by Jasmine Hammond’s 10 points.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Monday, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
