OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (1-0) tipped off the 2010-11 season with a 63-49 win at Mid-America Christian University (0-1) on Friday.
After the Evangels scored the first two buckets of the game, the Lady Rams battled back to take an 8-6 lead on a jumper from
LaShandra Hill. The game remained tight until the closing minutes of the first half. The Rams led by only one, 21-20 with just over three minutes remaining, but Texas Wesleyan took command when
Shayla Moore scored six points during a 10-0 run. MACU closed the period with the final bucket, but trailed 31-22 at the break.
The Rams forced 17 first-half turnovers and outshot the Evangels 43%-32% from the floor in the first period.
The Lady Rams maintained a steady advantage in the second half, leading by as many as 20 points on their way to the 63-49 win. The Rams outshot the Evangels 43%-33% from the field and 33%-19% from long range for the game. MACU outrebounded Texas Wesleyan 40-31, but the Rams forced 31 turnovers.
The Lady Rams will play their home opener on November 13, when they host Tarleton State University. That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
