FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (8-0, 3-0 RRAC) breezed to a 92-63 win over Huston-Tillotson University (0-10, 0-3) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.
After a bit of a slow start, Texas Wesleyan took control of the game with a 15-1 run midway through the first half that gave them a comfortable 28-10 lead. The Rams stayed hot for the remainder of the half, shootin 61% from the floor in the period, and led 49-27 at the intermission.
In the second half, the lead ballooned to 35-points (70-35) with 11:46 to play. The Rams were able to spread minutes around for extended periods without the lead falling below 23-points, as they cruised to the 92-63 win.
For the game, Texas Wesleyan outshot Huston-Tillotson 59.4%-28.6% from the floor and dominated the rebounding category, 53-27. The Rams committed 20 turnovers while forcing 21; however, Texas Wesleyan led 29-17 in points off of those turnovers.
Ten Rams saw double-figures in minutes played, while five players reached double-figures in points.
“Every game is a big one,” commented head coach Terry Waldrop. “Our guys guarded and rebounded today. They did everything we asked them to do. Our focus was tremendously better than it was Monday night. We will continue to get better.”
Huston-Tillotson was led by Rex Kyles’ 16 points. Jerald Ardoin posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards in the loss.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host Our Lady of the Lake University. That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
