Lady Rams Cruise Past HTU

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (6-1, 2-1 RRAC) took a 79-61 win against conference opponent Huston-Tillotson University (1-4, 1-2 RRAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.

 

The Lady Rams got out to a 7-5 lead to start the game, before going on a 7-0 run capped by a Nicole Terral three-pointer. Texas Wesleyan got out to a 20-13 lead before both teams went flat and neither team scored for two minutes. Huston-Tillotson failed to score for over five minutes and did not get going until late in the first half.  Meanwhile, the Lady Rams streaked out to a comfortable 40-19 lead at the break.

 

Texas Wesleyan improved in the shooting category from their previous contest, shooting 45.7 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, and 72.7 percent (8-11) from the charity stripe. Huston-Tillotson shot only 25.8 percent from the field in the first half. The Tillotson Lady Rams also shot 16.7 percent from the three-point line and 50 percent (2-4) from the free throw line.

 

The Lady Rams kept the tempo fast in the second half, capitalizing on mismatches on both sides of the court. Huston-Tillotson had some short bursts of dominance though, going on a 6-2 run to bring the score to 50-31 with 12:22 left in the game. The Tillotson Lady Rams picked at the lead throughout the second half, but the Wesleyan advantage was too much for Huston-Tillotson to overcome. Texas Wesleyan took the game, winning 79-61.

 

The Lady Rams shot 40.3 percent on the night from the field, 22.2 from the three point line, and 73.9 percent from the free throw line. Huston-Tillotson shot 43.8 percent from the field in the second half to bring their percentage to 34.9 percent for the game. Tillotson shot 25 percent from behind the arc and 70 percent from the free throw line for the game. The Lady Rams scored 26 points off of turnovers, to the Tillotson Rams 13.

 

Tiffany Adair led all players with 22 points. Octavia Mullins grabbed a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Shayla Moore added 11 points in the win

 

The Lady Rams will continue their home stand with a conference game against Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday, December 4, at 5:30 p.m.
