FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (7-1, 3-1 RRAC) handed Our Lady of the Lake University (4-3, 3-1) its first Red River Athletic Conference loss on Saturday. The Lady Rams prevailed 79-71 in the Sid Richardson Center.
In the first half neither team led by more than six points as the game saw eight ties and three lead changes. After OLLU’s Jennifer Davison tied the game at 37 with 1:01 to play in the period,
Shayla Moore hit a jumper to put the Rams back on top.
Nicole Terral then stole the ball, and Moore drained a three. Krystal Manning hit a three-pointer for the Saints on the final possession of the half to bring the score to 42-40 favoring the Rams.
The second half was never more than a two-possession game until the Rams used an 8-0 run on a pair of threes from
Eliana Mijangos and a jumper from
Kristi Alexander to take control at 69-61 with 3:46 to play. The Rams led 74-66 heading into the final minute. Mijangos made it a 10-point game when she hit a pair of free throws with 40 seconds to play, and the Rams held off the Saints for the 79-71 win.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Saints 40%-37% from the field. OLLU held a 52-48 advantage in rebounding
Five Lady Rams reached double-figures in scoring, led by
Brittany White who poured in 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out five assists. Mijangos also finished with 15 points. Moore added 13 points,
Tiffany Adair 12, and Alexander 11 for the Rams.
Octavia Mullins pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
OLLU was led by Kenisha McDade who scored 16 points off the bench. Aisha Crump added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Krystal Manning finished with 12 points.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, December 11, when they host Oklahoma Christian University. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
