PLAINVIEW, TX: For the second time in three days the Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (0-2) suffered a 2-1 defeat. This time the loss came at Wayland Baptist University (0-1).
Wayland took the upper hand early with a strike from Guillermo Villarreal on an assist from Carlos Mellado in the 19th minute. The Rams scored a thrilling goal 36 seconds before the intermission when Chase Richeson fed freshman Ivan Kovacevic for his first collegiate goal.
The lone score of the second half came in the 65th minute when Mellado connected with Guillermo again, this time for the game-winner.
The Rams got off three corner kicks and four shots in the final minute, but could not find the net.
Texas Wesleyan outshot Wayland Baptist 20-11, but goalkeeper Derek Bell (1-0) came up with six five saves against six shots on goal. #Dominick Gutierrez# (0-1) made three saves in the loss.
The Rams will look to change their luck in front of the home fans on Saturday, when they host Ouachita Baptist University. That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
