SHAWNEE, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (0-5) suffered their fourth 2-1 loss of the season on Tuesday.  This time the defeat came at the hands of Oklahoma Baptist University (2-1).

 

OBU’s Pedro Pereira took care of all of the offense for the Bison.  In the 23rd minute, he connected on a penalty kick after Texas Wesleyan goalkeeper Dominick Gutierrezreceived a yellow card.  Later, seconds before halftime, Pereira found the net again and OBU led 2-0 at the break.

 

In the 73rd minute, Miguel Arreguinwas handed his second yellow card of the game, and the Rams played shorthanded for the final 18 minutes.  In the 80th minute Ivan Kovacevicscored off a corner kick from Cameron Stapleton, but the Rams could not find the equalizer.

 

Texas Wesleyan was carded four times while OBU did not receive a caution.  The Bison led 14-10 in fouls for the game.  OBU got the better of the ball control, outshooting Texas Wesleyan 35-6 and taking nine corner kicks to the Rams’ one.

 

Gutierrez made 15 saves to keep his team in the contest.

 

“Dominick [Gutierrez] was amazing today,” commented head coach Gaspar Martinez.  “We are struggling to find our feet as a team, and up front we are not getting results.  We are getting better, but at the moment it just is not good enough.”

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host Lubbock Christian University.  That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
