MARSHALL, TX: The fourth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (13-1, 5-0 RRAC) remained unbeaten in Red River Athletic Conference play with a 75-51 win at Wiley College (7-8, 3-3) on Saturday.
 
The Rams came out hot, opening the game on a 14-2 run. Texas Wesleyan continued to pull away and led 39-18 at the intermission.
 
Texas Wesleyan’s defensive effort limited the Wildcats to just 18.2% (6-33) shooting in the first half, while hitting 51.7% (15-9) on the offensive end.
 
In the second half, the Rams led by as many as 27, 53-26, before the Wildcats made their only run. Wiley used a 10-0 run to close the gap to 17 points at 53-36, but could get no closer. Texas Wesleyan later used a 9-0 run to lead 73-49 on their way to the 75-51 win.
 
For the game, the Rams shot 43.4% from the field and 36.8% (7-19) from long range. Wiley managed just 24.6% from the field and 20% (3-15) from distance.
 
“It’s always about surviving on the road,” commented head coach Terry Waldrop. “This was a workman like effort. Jonathan Blake was outstanding tonight.”
 
Blake led the Rams with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Bryce Hill also poured in 15 points, while Brian Wanamaker and Jeremy Smith each finished with 14.
 
Jemmari Gunn was the only Wildcat to reach double-figure scoring with 13 points.
 
“Obviously we need to play our best game on Monday,” Waldrop said. “You play for these kinds of games. It is going to be two of the top teams in the country, and we will have to be clicking on all cylinders.
 
The fourth ranked Rams, travel to Shreveport, LA, on Monday, to take on second ranked and undefeated LSU-Shreveport in an RRAC contest. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
