FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (9-5-2, 6-2-1 RRAC) pulled out a win against conference undefeated Huston-Tillotson University (13-3, 9-1 RRAC) in a 2-1 overtime thriller at Martin Field on Saturday Night.

The Rams forced the issue in the first half, keeping Huston-Tillotson off balance. The two teams seemed evenly matched making for a very fast paced, moderately clean half with Wesleyan picking up seven fouls to Huston-Tillotson’s nine.

The Rams took their scoring chances early and kept the pressure on until a ball played into the box from Ivan Kovacevic led Clay Lawson to head it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead that the Rams took into half time. That goal was the third conference goal HTU had given up this season. It was also the first time that Huston-Tillotson trailed at halftime since October 3, 2009, spanning 25 games.

The Huston-Tillotson Rams put some shots up, but only one was on goal, as Wesleyan took seven shots with three on goal.

The moderately clean playing quickly deteriorated in the second half, and the two teams tallied a combined five second half cautions and 20 fouls.

The Huston-Tillotson Rams were able to get the equalizer in the 60th minute that Cesar Silva put in the net off of a rebound. This gave Tillotson new life as they kept attacking, but quickly ran out of steam.

The Rams took over from there, getting multiple looks toward goal with one of them being a TJ Romaguera shot that beat the keeper, but hit the post, crossing in front of the goal but did not spin in for the goal.

The two teams played in a 1-1 tie for the remainder of the second half to force overtime.

The Rams overcame Huston-Tillotson in the 92nd minute when Senior Christian Sotelo put in the golden goal off of a corner kick from Kovacevic to win 2-1.

With the win, the Rams broke a Huston-Tillotson streak of 12 conference wins.

Dejan Milosevic (9-5-2) tallied three saves in the win. Kovacevic posted two assists, while two defensive backs provided the offense for the Rams in Lawson and Sotelo.

The Rams will play a make-up game against Our Lady of the Lake on Monday, October 24. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
