FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (14-3, 6-2 RRAC) took a 4-0 win over Huston-Tillotson University (4-10, 2-6) on Senior Night at Martin field on Saturday.  With the victory, the Lady Rams matched the program record for wins in a season at 14.

Texas Wesleyan has reached the 14-win mark in two out of three seasons now.  Texas Wesleyan has seen 14-win seasons in 2005 and 2009.  Last year’s squad finished at 13-6.  “We take it one game at a time, and it adds up,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs.  “That’s a tribute to our players, but the one win we have our eye on is November 12, in the conference final.”

Prior to the game, the Rams honored three seniors, Erin Bethany, Whitney Chappell, and Kayla Mason.  During their tenure they have produced an overall record of 51-22 and a conference mark of 24-8.  They have won one RRAC Championship and made a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.  They have seen a single season record for goals with 80 in 2009 and a school record 11 shutouts this season.

On Saturday, goalkeeper Aubree Gallego set a new school record with her 10th shutout of the season, while the team pushed its single-season record to 11.  Gallego made three saves to preserve the win.

Jessica Watton got involved in all four-goals for Texas Wesleyan.  Watton blasted a free kick from 25 yards in the 16th minute and scored again on a free kick from near the same spot in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, Watton played a cross to Kaeley Albus in the box for Texas Wesleyan’s third goal of the game in the 76th minute.  Ten minutes later, Watton drilled her 23rd goal of the year to cap the scoring at 4-0.

The hat-trick was the fourth of the season for Watton and the seventh of her career.

For the game, Texas Wesleyan led 38-8 in total shots, 20-3 in shots on goal, and 13-0 in corner kick opportunities.

“What a way to honor our three seniors,” Gibbs said.  “Those three have been a huge part of our success.  I thought we left some opportunities out there tonight, but we certainly produced a lot of chances and are happy to win.”

The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, October 29, when they travel to Hobbs, NM, to take on the University of the Southwest.  That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. MST start.
