HOBBS, NM: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (11-5-2, 7-3-1 RRAC) closed the regular season with a 3-2 win at the University of the Southwest (1-7, 1-9-1) on Saturday.
Saturday’s game featured a flurry of scoring before settling into a defensive battle for the final 70 minutes.
The Mustangs struck in the 6th minute of the game with a goal by Angel Hernandez on an assist from Gustavo Vega.
Still early in the first period, the game saw three goals scored in a stretch of five minutes. In the 15th minute

Kyle Fritz for the game-tying goal. At 19:11 Fritz gave the Rams the lead off an assist from
Ivan Kovacevic, but at 19:42 Hernandez leveled the match at 2-2 with an assist from Krystian Romero.
Reason prevailed from that point. The game reached the intermission still tied at two. In the 70th, Kovacevic’s conference leading 14th goal of the season proved to be a game-winner.
For the game, the Rams led 13-7 in total shots and 7-6 in shots on goal. The Rams took seven corner kicks compared to just two for the Mustangs.
Dejan Milosevic made four saves to preserve the victory.
With the win, the Rams finished the regular season at 7-3-1 in conference play. The Rams will be the fifth seed in the RRAC Tournament and will play at 4th seeded Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday, November 5, in quarterfinal action.
