Rams Win Thriller Over Knights

CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (6-3-1, 3-0-1 RRAC) picked up a 2-1 thrilling victory over Northwood University (2-3, 2-3 RRAC) at Knight Field on Thursday.

 

Texas Wesleyan got out to a solid start, processing the ball well around the pitch, and TJ Romaguera took the first shot of the game in the second minute with a header that went just past the left post.

 

The Northwood camp got off a couple shots in the 9th and 10th minute, but both of them were high over the crossbar.

 

Romaguera got the Rams on the board in the 23rd minute off of a rebound to give Wesleyan a 1-0 lead.

 

The Knights could not even the score before the half and the Rams took a 1-0 lead into the break.

 

Northwood came out aggressively in the second half, and it paid off. Gabriel Elizondo put in the equalizer after he got a rebound from a shot off the post, and tied the game at 1-1.

 

The two teams continued to battle, looking for chances to take the lead. Jorge Martinez put a shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but Dejan Milosevic covered it for the save. Ricardo Aguilera got behind one in the 8rd minute, but was it was rejected by a diving Brad Wood. Northwood’s Cesar Ortiz had a wide open shot in the 85th minute, but miss-hit it wide left.

 

Aguilera put the Rams over the top with a goal in the 86th minute with a through ball from Romaguera to give the Rams a 2-1 lead with three minutes left.

 

The Rams defending kept the Knights in check, and Wesleyan sealed the 2-1 victory.

 

Milosevic (6-3-1) tallied seven saves in the win. Wood had eight saves in the match for the Knights.

 

Both teams took 15 shots, and Wesleyan was called for 18 fouls to Northwood’s 9.

 

The Rams are back in action on Saturday, October 8 as they travel to Shreveport, LA to take on LSU-Shreveport. Game time is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
