Lady Rams Tie Record With Ninth Shutout

SHREVEPORT, LA:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (12-3, 4-2 RRAC) took a 1-0 win at LSU-Shreveport (5-4-1, 2-1-1) on the strength of a late goal from sophomore Karissa Olson.
 
The Lady Rams controlled play for most of the contest, putting four of their eight first half contests on target.  The Rams led 8-5 in total shots in the period and 4-0 in corner kicks, but neither team could find the net.
 
The game remained tied until Olson netted her fifth goal of the season in the 76th minute.
 
Aubree Gallego made five saves, including three in the second half, to preserve her eighth shutout of the season.  The game was the ninth shutout of the season for the Lady Rams, tying the school record set by the 2009 team.
 
For the game, the Lady Rams led 17-11 in shots (9-5 on goal) and 6-1 in corner kicks.  The Pilots led 14-3 in fouls, while Shay Wells made eight saves for the Pilots.
 
“I felt like we dominated from start to finish today,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs.  “We struggled to score, but found a way to win the game.”
 
The Lady Rams will return to action on Thursday, October 20, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University.  That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
