Lady Rams Drop Shootout in OK City

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK:  Offense was not a problem for either side in a season opening contest between the Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team and Oklahoma Christian University.  The Eagles rode 68 first half points to a 110-94 win on their home court.
 
For the game, the Lady Rams outshot the Eagles 48.1%-45.5% from the floor and held a 51-40 advantage on the glass.  The difference came beyond the arc where OC hit 13-of-33 while Texas Wesleyan managed just 4-of-14, and at the free throw line where the Eagles hit 37-of-44 (84%) to the Rams 12-of-24 (50%).
 
Oklahoma Christian rained in 10 three-pointers in the first half, and actually shot a higher percentage (52.6%) from long range than they did from the field (50%).  The Rams shot a solid 44.7% from the floor, but found themselves facing a 68-42 halftime deficit.
 
The Rams made a strong push in the second half, outshooting the Eagles 51.2%-39.3%, but they could not overcome the margin.
 
Six Rams reached double-figures in scoring, led by returning All-American Brittany White's 20 points.  Octavia Mullins added a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Newcomers Kayla McCray and Raven Smith pitched in 13 points apiece.  Krsiti Alexander finished with 11, and Raven Alexander scored 10 points for the Rams.
 
The Eagles were led by Katy Clift’s 25 points.  Clift went 7-for-16 from distance and 4-for-5 at the line.
 
Texas Wesleyan’s 94 points were the program’s most in a season-opening game since the 1987-88 team opened the season with a 108-50 win over Jarvis Christian College.
 
The Rams will return to action on Monday, when they travel to Chickasha, OK, to take on the University of Science & Arts.  That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.  Texas Wesleyan’s home opener is scheduled for November 21, when they host Ecclesia College.
