Lady Rams Rebound for First Win

CHICKASHA, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (1-1) responded to a tough season-opening loss with a sound 64-53 win at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (0-1) on Monday.
 
The Lady Rams dominated the boards for a second consecutive game.  This time, they held a 57-34 margin in rebounding and used 25 offensive boards to outscore the Drovers 21-7 in second chance points.
 
In the first half, Texas Wesleyan took control when Brittany White and Octavia Mullins combined to score eight points during a 12-1 run that pushed the score to 28-17.  The Rams held the Drovers to just 28% shooting in the period while hitting 40% on their end including a perfect 3-for-3 from long range.  All of that added up to a 31-24 halftime lead.
 
USAO quickly cut the score to 33-30 in the second half, but the Lady Rams reopened a double-figure lead at 46-36.  From there, the Rams led by as many as 14 (57-43) on their way to the 63-54 win.
 
For the game, the Rams shot 41% from the field and 56% (5-9) from long range while allowing the Drovers to hit at a 35% clip from the field and 18% (4-22) from distance.
 
Mullins handled the heavy lifting.  The senior forward turned in a second straight double-double with 19 points and 19 rebounds.  White added 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Kayla McCray just miss a double-double with 10 points and eight boards.  Nicole Terral finished with 10 points as well.
 
The Drovers were led by Liberty Payne’s 14 points, while Tashina Ototivo and Sharnice Reed each finished with 11.
 
The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, November 12, when they travel to New Orleans, LA, to take on the University of New Orleans.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.  Texas Wesleyan will play its home opener on November 21, when they take on Ecclesia College in the Sid Richardson Center.
