FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (5-1, 2-0 RRAC) picked up a 62-50 home win against cross town rival Paul Quinn College (1-6, 0-1 RRAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Wednesday night.
The Lady Tigers came into the Sid Richardson short staffed, having only five players total in the squad. That didn’t stop them from playing the Lady Rams hard to start the first half. The game was tied four minutes in, and then Wesleyan jumped out to a 10-5 lead with help from a Brittany White jumper from downtown. Paul Quinn stayed in the game and fought for the lead, getting within one of the Lady Rams with a Chaniese Turner layup to bring the score to 17-16 with six minutes left.
Texas Wesleyan shut the door from there, taking a 31-25 lead at the break. The difference in the first half could be attributed to the Lady Rams nabbing 15 points off of turnovers, while the Lady Tigers put in no points off turnovers.
The Lady Rams started the second half with an 11-3 run capped by a driving Kristi Alexander layup with 17:19 left in the second half to give the Wesleyan a 42-27 lead.
It was all Lady Rams from there as coach Bill Franey played all of his bench, while the Lady Tigers were without one and Texas Wesleyan improve to 3-0 at home with a 62-50 win.
Wesleyan only shot 33 percent from the field, 26 percent from the three point line, and 68 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers finished shooting 42 percent from the field, 17 percent from behind the arc, and 56 percent from the free throw line.
White led the all players with 17 points, went 3-5 from behind the arc, adding six rebounds in the win. Octavia Mullins picked up nine points to go along with eight boards for the Lady Rams
The Lady Rams travel to Shreveport, LA to take on LSU-S on Saturday, December 3. Game time set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
