NEW ORLEANS, LA: The seventh ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (8-2) went 2-0 at the Big Easy Challenge after an 81-72 win over Dillard University (0-14) on Friday.
The Blue Devils kept the game close for much of the first half. The score was tied at 20 with just over seven minutes remaining. The Rams then ripped off nine unanswered points capped by a fast break dunk from
Eric Frederick. The lead swelled to as many as 13 (40-27) as the Rams cruised to a 42-34 lead at halftime.
Texas Wesleyan was able to keep Dillard at arm’s length throughout the second half as their advantage hovered between nine and 15 points and the issue was never in doubt.
After posting 26 points and 10 rebounds against #10 Westminster College on Thursday, Frederick posted 26 points and 16 boards against the Blue Devils.
Ronnie Moss added 21 points, and
Oscar Griffin contributed 14 points and nine rebounds to the win.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Blue Devils 54%-42% from the field. The Rams also held solid advantages in points in the pain (52-26), points off of turnovers (19-9), second chance points (13-8) fast break points (14-2), and bench points (11-8).
Dillard was led by Terry Church who poured in a game-high 33 points.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University in a Red River Athletic Conference contest. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
