FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (20-4, 11-4RRAC) notched a 76-49 win over Wiley College (7-17, 4-13RRAC) Saturday night at the Sid Richardson Center.

 

The Lady Rams came out strong, taking a 3-2 lead with a three ball from Brittany White before going on a 9-0 run to make it 14-4. Texas Wesleyan kept a hefty lead on the Lady Wildcats extending that lead to as many 23 points by way of a Nicole Terral lay-in with 2:00 left to give the Lady Rams a 39-16 lead. Wiley went on a short 6-2 run to end the half nipping the lead to 41-22 at the break.

 

Solid defense in the first half by the Lady Rams gave Wiley no second chance points and 17 turnovers on 7 steals. Texas Wesleyan went 14-33 shooting 42.4% from the floor, while the Wildcats went 9-24 shooting 37.5%.

 

The Lady Rams kept the heat on in the second half, pressuring the Wiley offense into more turnovers early, taking a 51-28 lead with another three pointer from White. The teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the game until Wesleyan went on a 6-0 run capped by a White lay up, putting a 67-41 lead on the scoreboard with 4:39 left and putting the dagger in the hopes of a Lady Wildcat comeback. The Lady Rams cruised the rest of the way to their 20th win of the season, dropping Wiley 76-49.

 

The Lady Rams shot well all game shooting 43.5% from the floor, 33.3% from behind the arc, and 68.2% from the free throw line. The Wildcats shot 29.8% from the floor, 15.4% from the three point line and 65.0% from the charity stripe for the game.

 

White led all players with 15 points, Tiffany Adair notched 14 points, and Terral grabbed 12 points for Wesleyan. Octavia Mullins put in 10 points and grabbed six boards, while Veronica Mergerson picked up a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

 

The Lady Rams take a day off and play another home game on Monday, February 14, against LSU-Shreveport. Game time is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Sid Richardson Center.
