Rams Dismantle Huston-Tillotson

AUSTIN, TX: The sixth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (24-2, 17-1 RRAC) grabbed a lopsided 92-60 win at Huston-Tillotson University (1-26, 1-17) on Thursday.
 
Texas Wesleyan came out and shot a cool 66.7% from the floor while holding Huston-Tillotson to 35.3% in the first half. The Rams outscored HTU 20-6 in fast break points and steadily pulled away, leading by as many as 15, 42-27, on their way to a 44-31 advantage at the break.
 
Jonathan Blake paced the attack with 15 points, while Brian Wanamaker added nine points and six assists to the cause.
 
The second half brought more of the same. Texas Wesleyan quickly turned its 13-point lead into 24, starting the period with a 15-4 run that brought the score to 59-35. The Rams went on to lead by as many as 33, 80-49, as they cruised to the 92-60 win.
 
Blake led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Wanamaker finished with 19 points, 10 assists, and five boards. Stephon Mudiay added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Jeremy Smith posted 10 points, six boards, and five assists in the win. Jazz Holman also turned in seven points (including a power slam from the 6’0” freshman), five rebounds, two assists, and a block, all in the second half.
 
For the game, Texas Wesleyan outshot Huston-Tillotson 59%-31.5% from the floor and 50%-20% from long range. The Rams led 50-33 in rebounding, 60-20 in points in the paint, and 30-14 in fast break points.
 
The Rams will now prepare for their final two home games. They will host Bacone College on Saturday, before celebrating Senior Day against Langston University on Monday. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. start times.
