Lady Rams Blast Huston-Tillotson

AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (22-4, 14-4 RRAC) used a dominant first half of play to breeze to an easy 83-67 win at Huston-Tillotson University (8-17, 7-11) on Thursday.
 
In the first half, Texas Wesleyan doubled up Huston-Tillotson in numerous statistical categories including the score, 50-25. 
 
A three pointer from Shayla Moore capped a 21-6 run to begin the contest. The Lady Rams put on another run to close the period. In the last four minutes of the half, Texas Wesleyan outscored Huston-Tillotson15-4.
 
The Rams shot 60.6% from the field and 77.8% (7-9) from long range in the first half, while holding Huston-Tillotson to 27.3% overall and 12.5% (1-8) from long range. Texas Wesleyan also led 24-14 in rebounds, 26-12 in points in the paint and 20-4 in bench points.
 
The lead grew to as many as 33 points midway through second half, 70-37. With 5:13 to play, the game got contentious. The game was briefly halted when Texas Wesleyan’s Emma Fradette and Huston-Tillotson’s Brittney Jones were called for offsetting technical fouls and both players as well as two fans were ejected.
 
Huston-Tillotson used a 9-0 run in the final 1:38 to bring the score to a relatively reasonable 83-67 final.
 
For the game, the Rams outshot Huston-Tillotson 54.1%-35.5% from the floor and 55% (11-20) – 25% (4-16) from distance. Texas Wesleyan was whistled for 23 fouls, allowing Huston-Tillotson to score 19 points (19-29) at the free throw line.
 
The Rams spread the scoring around, as evidenced by a 34-8 margin in bench points. Ten Lady Rams received double-figures in minutes played, while all 11 players available to head coach Stacy Francis played at least four minutes. Moore led the Rams with 16 points, while Brittany White finished with 12.
 
Porche Revely paced four players in double-figure scoring for HTU with 15 points. Kvetta Williams added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams will now prepare for their final two home games. They will host Bacone College on Saturday, before celebrating Senior Day on Monday against Langston University. Both game are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. starts in the Sid Richardson Center.
