Lady Rams Win Tournament Preview

TYLER, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (26-4, 18-4 RRAC) took a 79-64 win at Texas College (19-11, 11-11). The two teams will meet again on Thursday in quarterfinal action at the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
 
Texas Wesleyan controlled much of the first half, leading by as many as 18, 37-19, before the Steers made a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to ten at 42-30. The Rams hit three free throws in the final minute to go to the locker room with a 45-32 advantage.
 
The Lady Rams were able to hold the Steers at arm’s length throughout the second half. The Rams never allowed Texas College to cut the deficit to single digits.
 
For the game, the Rams shot 45% from the field while holding Texas College to 32.8%. The Rams outscored the Steers 15-6 on the fast break and 21-5 in bench points.
 
Shayla Moore led all scorers with 23 points, while Octavia Mullins chipped in an impressive 18 points and 17 rebounds.
 
The Steers were led by British Thomas’ 16 points, while Elise Kea added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
 
As the second seed in this week’s RRAC Tournament, Texas Wesleyan will face the seventh seeded Steers again on Thursday. That quarterfinal game will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Waxahachie High School.
