FORT WORTH, TX: The Red River Athletic Conference has announced that third seeded Texas College has pulled out of this week’s RRAC Men’s Basketball Tournament, affecting the opponents for all first round contests. The Tournament is being hosted by Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX, March 3-5.
Top-seeded Texas Wesleyan will now play the host team, SAGU, at 1:00 p.m. in quarterfinal action on Thursday. The Rams (27-3) swept the season series from the Lions (9-19). Texas Wesleyan took a 108-80 win at home in December and an 86-68 victory in Waxahachie in January. With the removal of Texas College, SAGU moved into the eighth and final spot in the tournament.
The winner of that game will play the winner of #4 Paul Quinn College vs. #5 Wiley College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. If the top-two seeds survive quarterfinal and semifinal play, Saturday’s Championship game (6:00 p.m.) would be a third meeting between third ranked Texas Wesleyan and fifth ranked LSU-Shreveport (26-3).
Texas College President, Dr. Dwight Fennell, elected to pull his team from competition due to allegations of an ineligible player. The status of the player in question is still under investigation.
