FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (2-0) has played 180 minutes in stifling heat to start the season, and the Lady Rams have yet to allow a goal. The Rams followed up a 2-0 win over Howard Payne University on Friday with a 1-0 win over Wayland Baptist University (1-1) on Saturday.

The game time temperature read 106 degrees on Saturday, and the Lady Rams, playing the second of back-to-back games had just 13 players available. However, goalkeeper Aubree Gallego and the defense were up to the task.

Once again, the offense struck early. Whitney Chappell knocked in her second goal of the season off an assist from Katherine Bynum in the seventh minute.

Gallego made five saves to post her second shutout. The Lady Rams outshot the Pioneers 17-15 (8-5 in shots on goal).

“I am impressed with the effort from these kids,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “Having twelve players yesterday and thirteen today in this heat and find a way to win back-to-back games says a lot about them. We didn’t play as well as we wanted to, but we found a way to win and that is a good sign. I am impressed with what these kids will do for their team and this program.”

The Lady Rams will return to action on Friday, September 2, when they host John Brown University. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
