FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (3-1) notched a 3-1 victory over Central Christian College (3-1) at Martin Field on Hometown Heroes night on Saturday.
Texas Wesleyan honored some hometown hero’s from the Fort Worth Fire Department and also some coaching staff that has served in our country’s military. Assistant Coach Jody Ellsworth is a current Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marines, and Assistant Coach Cody Powell is a former United States Marine and a current Lewisville Fire Fighter. Goalkeeper Antonio Sifuentes is also a current United States Marine Reservist.
The Rams and the Tigers played evenly through first fifteen minutes of the first half, feeling each other out.
TJ Romaguera gave the Rams the edge with a goal played in from Javier Padilla, and Texas Wesleyan led 1-0 in the 18th.
The Rams put another one in, this time in the 22nd minute by Padilla off an assist from Ivan Kovacevic to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.
Liren Halle gave the Rams a nice cushion with a hard fought goal in the 34th minute to give the Rams a 3-0 lead into half time.
The Tigers played a more solid second half and kept pressure on the Rams with their aggressiveness, which led to a goal in the 64th minute by Stephen Craig.
The Rams tightened up the defense after that, taking care of Central Christian with a 3-1 win.
Dejan Milosevic (3-1) picked up the win with six saves. Kovacevic and Padilla both had a goal and an assist in the effort.
Wesleyan outshot the Tigers 22-16. Both teams took five corners. Central Christian committed 11 fouls to the Rams' 13 fouls. Texas Wesleyan got caught offside five times, while the Tigers had no offside penalties.
The Rams hit the field again on Tuesday, September 13, against Oklahoma City University. Game time is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
