VICTORIA, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (8-1) responded to their first loss of the season by blanking the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars (5-4) 4-0 on Sunday.
Jessica Watton stayed hot and got the Rams off to a quick start with a goal just 5:09 into the game.
That gave the junior forward goals in seven consecutive games, but she was not done. Just 47 seconds later, Watton found the net again for a 2-0 lead.
In the 27th minute, Watton found
Karissa Olson for another Lady Ram goal. Texas Wesleyan made it 4-0 in the 37th minute with a goal from
Allison Walsh.
For the game, the Lady Rams outshot the Jaguars 14-4. UHV was whistled for 12 fouls, while the Rams committed just four infractions.
“I was disappointed that we were so sluggish today,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “Our passing was sloppy throughout, but this was a very tough weekend with two road games against very good teams. Hopefully the experience will help us with another tough weekend of travel coming up. I’m happy with the win, but we still have to get better going into conference play.”
The Lady Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Muskogee, OK, to take on Bacone College in their Red River Athletic Conference opener. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
