MUSKOGEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (4-3-1, 1-0 RRAC) took a convincing 5-2 win at Bacone College (2-4, 0-1) in their Red River Athletic Conference season opener on Thursday.
With Thursday’s scoring outburst, the Rams have now scored 23 goals in eight games, just three shy of last season’s total through 17 contests.
Ivan Kovacevic led the attack with his second hat trick of the season (he had four goals and an assist in a win over Dallas Christian College).
Kovacevic wasted little time scoring the game’s first goal in the 9th minute on an assist from
TJ Romaguera.
Kyle Fritz made it 2-0 with a goal in the 18th minute off a feed from
Adam Pierce. Kovacevic struck again, this time on an assist from
Victor Ordonez, in the 27th minute, and Romaguera found the net in the 43rd minute to give the Rams a 4-0 cushion headed into the break.
The Warriors got a goal back in the 59th minute, but Kovacevic pushed the score to 5-1 with his third goal, an unassisted strike in the 63rd minute. Kuda Chijeche scored for Bacone in the 74th minute, but it was too little too late as the Rams walked away with a 5-2 win.
For the game, Texas Wesleyan outshot Bacone 32-13 including 17-8 on goal. Bacone’s Zack Huels made 12 saves in the loss, while
Dejan Milosevic made six stops in his fourth win of the season.
The Rams will jump right back into action on Saturday, when they travel to Tyler, TX, to take on Texas College in another RRAC tilt. That contest is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
