FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (10-2, 2-1 RRAC) suffered its first loss in conference play and its first shutout of the season at the hands of Our Lady of the Lake University (5-4, 1-0) on Thursday.  The Saints topped the Lady Rams 1-0 in double-overtime.

The Rams outshot the Saints 6-5 in the first half, but could not muster a quality scoring opportunity. OLLU led 11-4 in shots for the remainder of the contest.

Aubree Gallego made a season-high 10 saves to keep the game scoreless.  The junior keeper needed four stops in the first overtime period to keep Texas Wesleyan’s hopes alive.  Then, 2:36 into the second overtime, Stephanie Diaz got by the Texas Wesleyan back line, beat Gallego to the ball at the top of the box and ended the game 1-0.

For the game, OLLU led 16-10 in shots.  The Rams led 2-1 in corner kick opportunities and 10-9 in fouls.  OLLU’s Alyssa Mora made three saves to preserve the shutout.

“This was a bad day at the office,” said head coach Josh Gibbs.  “We ultimately got what we derved.  We never settled down and played out brand of soccer, and I take responsibility for that.  This is our biggest weekend of the year, and we obviously were not ready.  We will need a much better effort against a very good Brownsville team on Saturday.”

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Rams.  Jessica Watton also had her streak of consecutive games with a goal stopped at nine.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host UT-Brownsville in RRAC action.  That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
