FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (12-3, 7-2 RRAC) kept the home streak alive with a 76-61 victory over Huston-Tillotson University (4-10, 4-6 RRAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
 

The home court win streak stands at seven for the season, as the Lady Rams have not lost at home this season. The Lady Rams have won 21 consecutive home games dating back to December 2, 2010 with a 79-61 win over Huston-Tillotson.

The Lady Rams jumped all over Huston-Tillotson early, stomping out a 12-3 run to start the contest. Wesleyan did a good job of spreading the ball around and getting their entire offense involved as nine players scored in the first half. The Wesleyan defense kept the Huston-Tillotson Lady Rams at arm’s length. The Lady Rams led by as many as 14 with a Raven Alexander jumper from downtown to make it 31-17 with 8:44 left. 

Tillotson fought back with a 13-4 run capped by an Erica Cray layup and the foul three point play to cut the lead to a 34-30 Lady Rams advantage. The Lady Rams got back out to a nice cushion before the half, taking a 41-32 lead at the break.

The Lady Rams shot 51.6 percent from the field in the first half, while Tillotson shot 36.7 percent. Wesleyan went 5-9 from behind the arc, 55.5 percent, as Tillotson shot 33.3 percent. 

It was much of the same in the second half as Huston-Tillotson could not stop the Lady Rams from scoring. Texas Wesleyan kept a ten point lead of better for the entire second half, shooting 43 percent from the field. Huston-Tillotson shot 38 percent from the field, while turning the ball over 11 times, leading to the 76-61 easy win for the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams shot 47 percent from the field for the game, while Tillotson shot only 37 percent. The Lady Rams out-rebounded Tillotson 43-36. The Lady Rams passed the ball well with 23 assists as a team in the game. The Lady Rams bench also outscored Huston-Tillotson 30-16 

Brittany White threw down 13 points to go along with four assists and four boards in the win. Octavia Mullins achieved a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Rams. Raven Smith had a break out game with 14 points and seven boards in 18 minutes in the win.

The Lady Rams put their streak on the line on Thursday, January 19, when they take on The University of the Southwest. Game time is set for a 5:30 p.m. start at the Sid Richardson Center.
