Lady Rams Take Care of TC

TYLER, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (10-2, 5-1 RRAC) breezed to a 78-64 win at Texas College (1-11, 1-6) on Saturday.
 
The Lady Rams raced out to a quick 12-4 lead thanks to eight points from Kayla McCray.  Midway through the period, Kristi Alexander poured in five straight points to extend the lead to 29-16.  Texas Wesleyan led by as many as 15 (37-22) on their way to a 41-32 lead at the half.
 
In the first half, the Lady Rams outshot the Steers 46%-37% and held a commanding lead in points off of turnovers, 15-1, and points in the paint, 32-12.
 
Texas College made one push in the second half.  A 6-0 run cut the score to a manageable 51-46 with 12 minutes to play, but TWU was up to the challenge.  Nicole Terral stopped the run with a three-pointer and the Rams quickly stretched the lead to 60-48.
 
The Steers held the Rams to 36% shooting in the second half, but could not overcome a 29-11 deficit in points off of turnovers and a 40-26 margin in points in the paint.
 
For the game, the Rams outshot the Steers 42%-39% from the floor.  Both teams brought down 45 rebounds, but the Rams forced 27 turnovers while committing 18 on their end.
 
Alexander led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  McCray added 18 points and seven boards, and Brittany White finished with 12 points.
 
The Steers were led by Myesha Carrington and Adrienne Davis who each finished with 11 points.
 
The Rams will return to action on Monday, when they travel to San Antonio, TX, to take on 23rd ranked Our Lady of the Lake University.  That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
