Texas Wesleyan Defeats Southwestern Assemblies of God

Waxahachie, Texas- The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (8-4-2, 7-1-1 RRAC) improved their three-game winning streak to four as the Rams overtook Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Thursday afternoon in Waxahachie, Texas.

The Rams took away any hope for SAGU to advance to the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament as the Lions dropped their fourth consecutive game and fall to a 2-7 conference record and 6-10 overall on the season.

The Rams will improve to 8-4-2 overall on the season and 7-1-1 in RRAC play.

The sole goal of the game came at the 35 minute mark on a high 35 yard pass from Ivan Kovacevic. TJ Romaguera headed the ball just as the goalie leapt in the air to grab it to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Goalkeeper Dejan Milosevic came up big for the Rams as he tallied up eight saves in the match to bring his total to 42 saves on the season and 137 in his career.

The physical play of the Rams proved to overpower the offense of the Lions but frustrations seemed to seep in for Texas Wesleyan as the team picked up 15 fouls and four yellow cards during the course of the game.

The Rams have two final games left in the season. Texas Wesleyan will travel to Austin, Texas as the group hopes to keep their winning streak alive by going up against Huston-Tillotson at 1:00 p.m. on October 20th. The Rams will then return home to play the final game of the season when they host the University of the Southwest with the match set to start at 5:30 p.m.
