The Texas Wesleyan men’s soccer team celebrated Senior Night at Martin Field Saturday evening as the Rams played host to the University of the Southwest for the final game of the regular season. Texas Wesleyan honored seven seniors before the match en route to a 2-1 victory over the Mustangs.

“I am excited about getting a first round bye in the tournament,” said head coach Tyler Powell. “I am glad these seniors finished the regular season with a win. I am thankful these players have made such a big difference in changing the dynamics of the program.”

The first goal of the night came on an assist from T.J. Romaguera to Jose Albores to give the Rams an early lead for the night at the 12:58 mark in the game. The assist was the fifth of the season for Romaguera and the fourth goal for Albores.

Shortly after the first goal, it did not take the Rams long to strike again as Ivan Kovacevic connected with the back of the net to put the Rams up 2-0 at the 15:43 mark in the first half. It was the eighth goal of the season for Kovacevic and brings his points total to 25 on the season in 16 games played.

The Mustangs had their sole goal of the game at the 63:56 mark in the second half as Jorge Orona found the net to put a point on the board to make the score 2-1 with a little over 26 minutes left remaining in the half.

The Rams were able to hold on to cap off the regular season with a win and improve to a final record of 8-6-2 overall and 8-2-1 in conference play.
