FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (4-5-2, 4-1-1 RRAC) took it to LSU-Shreveport (7-4-1, 3-2-1 RRAC) in a 4-1 win at Martin Field on Saturday.
The Rams supported breast cancer awareness month with the 2012 Pink Out Game. The Rams wore pink jerseys and auctioned them off after the game, while the Fort Worth Fire Department came out to sell breast cancer awareness shirts, with all proceeds going to the Joan Catts Research Center.
The Rams received a gift in the fourth minute from an Ivan Kovacevic cross that could not get sorted out by the Pilot defense, resulting in an own goal and an early 1-0 Wesleyan lead.
The Rams earned the rest of the half, dominating the Pilots defensively, snuffing out most of the Pilot runs toward goal.
Wesleyan took nine first half shot, with two on goal. LSU-Shreveport took five shots with one on goal.
The Rams were called for a frustrating six offside penalties in the first half, much to the disbelief of the Wesleyan faithful, as they made their animosity known blatantly to the linesman official.
The 51st minute the Rams made it a 2-0 game with a fabulous goal by TJ Romaguera from Ivan Kovacevic. Romaguera took a shot from left of goal that hit the right post, flirted with the goal line, and finally kissed the left post to find the net.
The two hooked up again soon after as Romaguera played Kovacevic to beat the keeper with a gem to make it a 3-0 game.
The Pilots received a gift from the referee when a flop in the box confused the meager official, and awarded a penalty kick to LSU-S. Rodrigo Pontes put in the goal to put the Pilots on the board.
The Rams put the game away late in the match with a hard fought Jose Albores goal to extend the lead to a 4-1 lead.
The Pilots were never able to produce anything else and the Rams took the 4-1 conference win.
Wesleyan will continue the home stand with a match against conference foe Wiley College on Thursday, October 11 starting at 5:30 p.m.
