Rams Pick Up Road Win Against Jarvis Christian 89-72

Box Score

HAWKINS, Texas--Dallas Jones led the way in scoring for the Rams with 21 points as Texas Wesleyan picked up a conference win on the road on Saturday afternoon against Jarvis Christian College at the Anthony Robinson Gym. With the win, Texas Wesleyan improves to 8-1 on the season, with their sole loss coming from St. Gregory during the St. Gregory Thanksgiving Classic back in November.

“It was a great conference road win against a very tough Jarvis team,” said head coach Brennen Shingleton. “I am really proud of our approach. Jarvis is a very tough place to play and we survived with a win. We are proud of our team effort tonight.”

The Rams were able to make their way to the free throw line as they shot 19-27 from the line compared to just 5-8 by Jarvis Christian in the game.

Junior forward Bryan Werner posted a career high 18 points in the win. Werner also had 5 rebounds along with 1 assist in the road victory. Oscar Griffin racked up 16 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds.

Earlier this week, the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll was released and the Rams were able to snag the 11th spot in the rankings. Texas Wesleyan now holds the longest active streak record in the poll with 57 consecutive weeks. As much of a feat that is, Coach Shingleton and the team are just as focused on getting the next win.

“I am looking forward to getting back to practice tomorrow and keep working on our goals,” said Shingleton. “It doesn’t get any easier heading to Texas College on Monday. We will have to play our most focused and locked in game of the year to get a win there.”

The Rams will travel to Tyler, Texas to take on Texas College on Monday, December 10th. Tip-off is set at 7:30 p.m.
