Lady Rams Rip Tigers

DALLAS, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (19-5, 14-4 RRAC) breezed to a 56-36 win at Paul Quinn College (6-19, 5-14) on Saturday.
 
For the second straight game, the Lady Rams limited their opponent to fewer than 20 points in the first half.  The Rams allowed the Tigers just 16 shot attempts in the first half.  Paul Quinn was good on 6-of-16 (37.5%) and trailed 30-15 at the break.
 
Kayla McCray turned in a big half, with 12 of Texas Wesleyan’s 30 points to go with five rebounds.
 
The Tigers managed one push in the second half.  A 7-0 Paul Quinn run cut the deficit to single digits at 39-30 with 10:54 to play.  However, the Lady Rams responded with 13 unanswered points to put the game away at 52-30.
 
The Tigers actually shot a higher percentage for the game (39.5%-35.2%), but the Rams limited PQC to just 38 shot attempts while taking 71 attempts on their end.  The Rams led 41-32 on the boards thanks to 21 offensive rebounds that led to a 15-4 edge in second chance points.
 
McCray led all scorers with 15 points to go with eight rebounds.  Head coach Bill Franey was able to spread the minutes around as 10 Lady Rams played at least 11 minutes and all 13 eligible players saw the floor for at least six minutes.
 
Chaniese Turner led the Tigers with 13 points, while Tomeshia Smith added 10 and Domonique Mitchell contributed eight points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Marshall, TX, to take on Wiley College.  That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
