FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (21-5, 16-4 RRAC) held off the Texas College Lady Steers 60-57 at homecoming at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

The Lady Rams got out on a 9-0 run to start the game, and the Lady Steers finally got on the board four and a half minutes into the game.  

Wesleyan kept a decent lead until Texas College went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to a 25-21 Ram lead with six minutes left.

The Lady Rams kept the Steers at bay to take a 31-25 lead to intermission. 

Texas Wesleyan again kept a decent lead on the Steers throughout the second half, until the Texas College made a late charge, going on an 8-2 run with seven minutes left.

The Lady Steers got within one at 58-57 with two minutes left in the game with a Shirley McGowen layup.  

Both teams had opportunities to secure the lead with under a minute left, but the Lady Rams got a huge Kristi Alexander rebound with seven seconds left to lift the Wesleyan to a 60-57 win.

The Rams shot 34.5 percent from the field, while Texas College shot 37 percent from the field. The Lady Steers went 0-4 from behind the arc for the game, while Wesleyan shot 43.8 percent from the three point line. Texas College out-rebounded the Rams 46-36, but turned the ball over 22 times.  

Brittany White led the Rams with 18 points and seven boards. Octavia Mullins tallied 13 rebounds and six points in the win.

The Lady Rams will take on Our Lady of the Lake on Monday, February 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Center.
