Men's Basketball vs. OLLU 2/20/12 Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The eleventh ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (21-6, 16-5 RRAC) suffered a disappointing 102-67 loss at the hands of seventh ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (22-6, 19-3) on Monday.
The Rams kept things close with some hot shooting early on, but a quick 6-0 run put OLLU in the driver’s seat at 25-14. The Rams trimmed that back to 28-22, but an 8-0 run later put OLLU up 43-27. That same margin held at the half with OLLU leading 47-31.
In the first half, the Rams outshot the Saints 56%-38% from the field, but 17 turnovers and an offensive rebound count of 11-0 led to OLLU taking 42 shots to Texas Wesleyan’s 19.
The Saints got away quickly in the second half, beginning the period with a 10-4 run to push ahead 57-35. The margin hovered around 20 points for the majority of the period, but the Saints won going away 102-67.
For the game, the Saints outshot the Rams 47% (35-75) – 44% (22-50). The Saints were also good for 13-of-35 three point attempts while the Rams hit just 1-of-16.
The game was marred by 53 fouls including five technical fouls. The Rams went to the free throw line for 37 attempts hitting on 22, while OLLU went 19-for-26 at the line.
Eric Frederick led all scorers with 20 points in the loss.
Oscar Griffin added 17 and
Brian Talley and
Chris Britt-Black each scored nine for the Rams.
The Saints were led by Robert Martinez and Michael Brown who each scored 17 points. Josh Orta added a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists, and Lo’Ron Smith finished with 15 points for OLLU.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Hobbs, NM, to take on the University of the Southwest. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. MST start.
