Box Score HOBBS, NM: The eleventh ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (22-6, 17-5 RRAC) took a convincing 101-71 win at the University of the Southwest (10-18, 7-17) on Thursday.
Eric Frederick led the charge, pouring in 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the first half. Meanwhile the Rams limited the Mustangs to 36% shooting from the field and 21% (3-14) from long range on their way to a 45-34 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Rams shot nearly 60% from the field and outrebounded the Mustangs 27-11.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Mustangs 54%-39% and led 53-27 on the boards. The TWU bench also outscored the USW bench 25-15.
Frederick notched a game-high 29 points to go with 11 rebounds to pace five Rams in double-figure scoring.
Jazz Holman added 18 points,
Oscar Griffin 16, and
Brian Talley 13.
Stephane Mudiay also came off the bench to contribute 13 points and eight rebounds, while freshman
Jon Rutkowski finished with six points and six boards.
USW was led by Demetrius Evans’ 26 points.
Head coach Terry Waldrop was pleased with his team’s performance following Monday’s loss. “After the disappointment Monday, I thought we bounced back, played well, and got a good win on the road,” Waldrop commented.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday as they celebrate Senior Day against Bacone College. That final home game of the season is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
